If you literally have a clean sheet to work with we have to admit that’s a lot of fun for us. It really allows us to get creative.
The Technical Side Of The Plan
The big mistake that you certainly don’t want to make when designing these surfaces is to get too focused on where everything goes and how ideally different plants, and hardscapes, and your lawn can fit together. In doing so forgetting about proper drainage and irrigation needs that you could have. That’s one of the things that we check and double-check particularly when folks come in with a set plan of what they want to do. It’s great to have a perfectly customized outdoor area. You’ll want to make sure though that the design is not giving you any type of trouble down the line!
Are There Things That You Want To Keep?
This is something that we cover in other parts of the site. We understand that not in every single case we’ll be able to have that clean sheet to work on. If you have existing hardscapes or even landscaping features that you want to keep as they are, we can certainly work around them and incorporate them into the design. If you want to have certain things removed to be able to “start fresh” that’s another option that is on the table.
What Exactly We Mean By Installation
There are things like paving stones that we are not necessarily going to produce. In a lot of ways our job is to find different hardscapes and even flowers and plants from other places. What we are going to be doing is literally gathering all of those things up. The next thing that we have to do is just come in and set them up where we believe they look best. That’s why we talk about installation. Our job in many ways revolves more around adjusting certain things more so than developing them.

- EMPHASIS: Emphasize designs using texture, form, or color to guide through the design. Some areas are best stand-alone; some are meant to stand out.
- SEQUENCE: Gradual changes offer a smooth, eye-catching sequence. Avoid too much variation in changes between plants.
- SCALE: The size of your landscape and the items in it should all be balanced.
- UNITY: Everything works together. Interconnection is gaining unity by using connections such as paths, walkways, stairs and fences to physically link areas.
